The 13th ranked Mariners continue their run, knocking off the White Sox
in four games. Seattle's pitching continues to be strong in the
playoffs, even though the bats of Cano and Cruz cooled in the series. A
game one matchup between Felix Hernandez and Chris Sale was decided in
favor of Hernandez.
Game One: Hernandez struck out nine and almost went all the way in a dominant win over the Sox's Sale. Sale, although striking out eight, gave up five Seattle runs in 6.1 innings. Franklin Gutierrez knocked in two, including a long homer in the fourth, to key the win. Seattle 6, CHW 1.
Game Two: The Sox Jose Quintana continues to shine in the playoffs, striking out nine and only allowing two runs in 6.1 innings. Seattle manages to tie it late, until two relievers walk in two more White Sox runs to seal it. CHW 6, SEA 4.
Game Three: The
Sox take an early three run lead, scoring early off Seattle's Taijuan
Walker. But then the Sox Jeff Samardjzia gets homer-happy, allowing
three runs shots to both Seth Smith and Brad Miller, giving the Mariners
all the runs they need, as Walker settles in and Mark Lowe shuts it down
late. SEA 6, CHW 3.
Game Four: A matchup of youngsters James Paxton for Seattle and Carlos Rodon of Chicago. Rodon is fine early and allows a five run fourth to Seattle, highlighted by a Ketel Marte double that clears the bases. But the White Sox bounce back late of a tiring Paxton and an ineffective Carson Smith, cutting the score to 5-4. But Seattle blows it open in the bottom of the eighth with three more runs, including a clutch single by Mark Trumbo that brings home two. SEA 8, CHW 4.
